Skin a Scion, Win a Scion

Toyota's marketing efforts for the Scion brand have been untraditional from the onset, and it's interesting to see what niche audiences they are attempting to attract, especially with the broad net that they cast into the web. I was surprised when they launched a virtual Scion storefront in Second Life last year, even more so when I heard that Scion was shifting their marketing away from MySpace because "it viewed MySpace as 'too mainstream.'"
Now DeviantArt is hosting a Skin A Scion contest, where artists are provided with Scion templates and can use their Photoshop kung-fu to create the ultimate paint job. If they are looking for some absolutely killer, jaw-dropping designs, then they have gone to the right place.
The real kicker... the sole winner takes home the Scion model of their choice. I love my tC, but I wouldn't mind upgrading to a model that didn't have dings in the door. If only my Photoshop skills weren't limited to web mockups and photo retouching...

100 Second Film Festival, 2005-2006 Highlights
Jason has uploaded the 100 Second Film Festival highlights to the Internet Archive, and so in the spirit of the festival, I'm streaming the video here. Think of it as a virtual screening. Grab some popcorn and watch the show. And then get out there and make your own entry for the 2007 Festival.
This is a 59 minute compilation of some of the outstanding works from the 100 Second Film Festival 2005 - 2006. The 100 Second Film Festival is a collaborative remixable film festival bringing people together around creating, sharing and watching videos that are 100 seconds or less in duration. The works contained herein are from all over the United States and Europe.
This program is ideal for cablecast on public access television or community screenings. Everything is licensed under the Creative Commons.

Vanity Plates

This post on Digg led me to discover a handful of licenseplate photo clusters on Flickr, which remended me that I had a small collection of vanity license plate pictures sitting on my hard drive. These were from a Phish show in January of 2005, and are somewhat amusing if you're familiar with the band.
More photos after the jump, or view them all on Flickr.

FEMA's Marketing Strategy

We received a random package in the mail at work today... a burlap sack from FEMA. It seems that this is where our hurricane relief dollars go when no one's looking...

It's a FEMA public service announcement, on 3/4" videotape! Awesome, we don't even use 3/4"... if it wasn't packaged so elaborately, it would already be in the trash.
